1. mukesh ambani.

Mukesh Ambani Yacht

Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in the country, so you can imagine the magnanimity of his choicest possessions, especially his luxury yacht which set him back a whopping amount of over US$ 100 million. Measuring somewhat close to 58 meters long and about 38 meters wide, its pictures reveal that it is nothing short of a floating mansion on the high sea, spread over three sprawling decks.

There are many cool features that promise absolute entertainment and relaxation onboard. It comes with a retractable solar glass roof and further fitted out with a vast spectrum of comforts and facilities. Besides exclusive space for a helipad, the high-tech yacht also includes personal guest suites, sauna, massage room, spa, piano lounge bar, outdoor sunbath area, and a pool that spans over 25 meters.

2. Vijay Mallya

Vijay Mallya yacht

Vijay Mallya, the former owner of Kingfisher Airlines, has always been a pacesetter and his love for the prized materialistic luxury is evident from his high-end purchases including Kalizma (a 50-meter yacht) and the mega yacht, Indian Empress. Not to mention, he is one of the firsts in the country to kick off this trend of owning luxury yachts. Al though Indian Empress was confiscated in 2018 due to Mallya’s legal battles, this breathtaking 95-metre yacht deserves to be on this list due to its plush features and high-end amenities.

This yacht was originally made for the member of a royal Qatari family, before Mallya owned it by paying a jaw-dropping amount of over $112 million in 2006. It is so expansive and massive that it boasts of a lavish master suite and some 15 plus guest staterooms. Add to this stunning interiors enhanced by an array of glam features like helipad, gym, Jacuzzi, beauty salon, massage room, and spacious deck spaces. Given an ardent party lover, he made this yacht a venue for several prestigious celebrations including the parties during Monaco Grand Prix which was mainly graced by A-list guests.

I didn’t have the knowledge of yacht owners offering their yachts for rent or charter. Lakshmi Mittal is exceptional.

There are some rich from whom you can rent or charter a yacht.

Going by the looks and size, my favorite celebrity yacht is the one that Mukesh Ambani owns.

Excellent choice.

If I had been as rich as these people, I would not have spent money on yachts. When renting one can give the same feeling and experience, why reduce the bank balance, and buy a yacht.

We appreciate your thought.

Taxes are also an important factor to consider when purchasing a yacht in India.

The country has a variety of taxes that are applicable to the purchase and ownership of a yacht.

For example, the value-added tax (VAT) is applicable for all purchases made in India, and is calculated as a percentage of the purchase price.

There are also customs duties that must be paid for imported yachts.

Finally, it is important to factor in the cost of maintenance and upkeep when considering the cost of a yacht in India.

This includes regular services such as engine maintenance, cleaning, and repairs.

Depending on the size and complexity of the yacht, these costs can be quite significant and should be factored into the budget.

Yacht Chartering Options in India

Super-rich flaunt Yachts as their new symbols of wealth

The most impressive indian yacht, however, is vijay mallya's indian empress, bought in 2006, for an estimated 72 million..

Anil Ambani bought one for his wife, Tina, six years ago. Vijay Mallya has one, so do Adi Godrej, Gautam Singhania and real estate baron Sunny Wadhawan. India has yet to see a booming yacht business - and the number of luxury yacht owners is barely 50 - but a beginning has been made.

private yacht owners in india

There are, however, limits to customization. Classification societies in different countries lay down specifications for marine vehicles which have to be adhered to. The European Union, for instance, has a recreational craft directive (RCD) for boats between 2.5 and 24 metres. These relate not only to the engine but also the interiors - locations of bedrooms and bathrooms cannot be arbitrarily changed as this might affect weight distribution of the vehicle. "We have to meet RCD norms," says Gautama Dutta, Director, Marine Solutions. Still, cabins can be merged to make them bigger or a salon or bar added, if the customers asks. Indian customers, company sources added, were primarily interested in the appearance of the yacht rather than technicalities.

The Dawn of a New Era for Luxury Boats in India

Over the last 50 years, the boat industry in India has tapped into numerous different applications, ranging from defense, commerce, surveillance, and entertainment. However, if there is one area that has seen a sudden, exponential growth, it is the luxury boat sector.

Consider the scenario of Mumbai about a decade ago – there used to be hardly 10 odd pleasure yachts lined up at the coastline, all owned by industry moguls of the country. Today, there are over 100 jostling for space there, as the entrance barrier has declined.

How is it that the luxury boat industry has grown so rapidly? What are the factors influencing this rise? And most importantly, what is the future of the luxury boat industry in India? These are some of the questions we shall explore in detail today, as we sail through the past, present, and future of the luxury boat industry in India.

The Growth of Luxury Boats in India

The growth of the yacht culture in India has not been an overnight phenomenon. However, India has always had an affinity for luxury boats. Be it the Shikaras on Dal Lake in Kashmir, or the houseboats on the Alleppey backwaters, we have been fascinated with pleasure yachts for a long time.

With the introduction of modern boat design, the elite of the country began to invest in luxury yachts. Given the high entry costs, luxury boats became a status symbol for the biggies of the industry and built an aura of exclusivity around luxury boats.

However, over the past decade or so, advanced technology, the introduction of newer, more economical materials, and an increase in the number of luxury boat manufacturers have significantly chipped away at the perceived barriers into the yacht industry.

Buying a yacht is now the new alternative to buying a second luxury vehicle. While the cheapest leisure boats start at 2 lakhs, the market is dominated by the 33ft-50ft boat segment, which starts at 15-16 lakhs per vessel. Of course, at the higher end of the spectrum, where these luxury boats resemble floating palaces, the cost can go well into crores.

The growth of the luxury boat industry is augmented by the fact that people are now chartering boats for private and corporate events more than ever. Since everybody is not able to afford to buy a boat, chartering one can be a viable option. This has significantly boosted the investment of individual buyers and tourism companies, who recoup their capital by renting out the yachts on short leases.

Although the overall growth trend has been positive, that’s not to say that the journey has always been smooth sailing. The luxury boat industry has witnessed several ups and downs in the past decade, the latest being a two-year slump in the market due to recession. Let’s now see what are the different factors that have influenced the luxury boat market over the past 10 years.

Factors Influencing the Luxury Boat Industry

There are a number of factors that have positively and negatively influenced the growth of the luxury boat industry in India. Here we briefly see a few of the major factors at play.

Positive Factors

Increase in disposable income.

There has been a year-on-year rise in the disposable income of families in India, prompting a trend of luxury lifestyles. Consequently, people are looking for new and different ways to invest money and luxury boats have become a feasible option. With the right balance of luxurious and exotic, the new generation is looking at boats as a means of a entertainment from a fresh perspective.

Growing Love for Adventure

In addition to the rising income, the new generation is also fitness-conscious and adventurous. The thought of a personal yacht for a weekend getaway is very enticing, especially when there are plenty of waterways close at hand. Be it fishing, sailing, or entertaining friends and family, yachts are fast-becoming a popular option for the fun generation.

Tons of Options Available

An increase in the relative number of boat manufacturers in India has opened up the luxury boat market to a large extent. Innovative boat design, use of modern technology, and sustainability concerns have led to the creation and manufacture of a slew of boats, of varied shapes, sizes, and applications. The availability of such options enables buyers to shortlist manufacturers and boats that fit both, their budget and their requirements. Consequently, there is an increase in the luxury boat industry.

Organization of Lucrative Competitions

In a welcome development for the casual thrill-seeker, there are a number of boating competitions being organized in India, and having a huge fan following. Professional annual boat races and galas are now an established event and draw huge crowds during the season. This encourages enthusiasts to buy boats of their own, for practice and pleasure.

Negative Factors

Although the growth of the luxury boat industry has been exponential, there are some factors that have limited the expansion of the sector. These are listed below, in no particular order.

Lack of Marine Infrastructure

Despite the increase in the number of luxury boats being manufactured, marine infrastructure has not grown at the same pace. The severe lack of marinas and docks to anchor the boats at popular coastlines like Mumbai, Goa, or Chennai necessitates boat owners to dock their boats internationally. This hampers the purchase and use of luxury boats to a great extent.

Global Economic Slowdown

The global economic recession had a major impact on the luxury boat industry, causing a two-year slump in 2008-09. Although it has recovered from this setback, the sector is still subject to the repercussions of global economic crises as they directly impact the spending capacity of the public.

Heavy Surveillance

Post the Mumbai terror attacks, security has been beefed up along the coastline, naturally. However, though this is a necessary measure, it does expose luxury boat owners to frequent inquiries from the coastguard, which can become tedious.

On the whole, the positive factors far outweigh the negative trends affecting the growth of the luxury boat industry and consequently, there has been a continuous upward rise in the yachting sector.

So far, so good. Let us now see what the future holds for the luxury boat industry.

The Future of Luxury Boats

According to a report by Research and Markets , the global luxury yacht market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.01% in 2016-2020. This portends a bright future for luxury boat manufacturers and designers.

It is worth noting that buyers these days are becoming more conscious about the exact boat they need, based on their specific application. There is greater awareness about the make and model of boats and the buyers consider all the fixed and recurring costs into account while purchasing the vessel.

It can be concluded that luxury boats are fast-replacing conventional modes of weekend getaways and are poised to make their presence felt in the tourism and entertainment industry in India.

SEAL Superyachts acting as agents, and dealt with our needs ... the private charter flight over the Andamans was also arranged, and all transfers, permissions from the authorities and customs paerwork went through without a hitch ... The Andamans are a wonderful cruising area, but the logistic and the bureaucracy are incredible. So we were very fortunate having your support to smoothen the path for us.

Here’s what it will cost to rent a yacht off Mumbai, Goa right now

By Suruchi Kapur Gomes

mumbaigoamaldivesyachts

In times like these, there are few more luxurious ways to ensure social distancing than by renting a yacht to take you out to sea. This is the time when things usually get busy on the seas. But 2020, as we know, is a bit different. Several ports across the country are still not fully operational forcing yacht owners to move their vessels to friendlier seas. While those based in India can still cruise through the country's waters, the ones that sailed abroad when the lockdown hit cannot return to Indian ports just yet. Thankfully, there are still some options for you off the waters of Mumbai, Goa and the Maldives .

Here are six yachts you can charter from Goa, Mumbai and the Maldives right now

(Note: Standard yacht charter fees cover maintenance of the vessel and crew. Fuel and consumables are charged additionally)

Owner: Raymond Limited Span: 150 Feet Capacity: 12 guests Rate: US$105,000 (Rs77.78 lakh) per week; or US$10,000 (Rs7.4 lakh) daily

Ashena luxury yacht

An idea that came to Raymond Group head Gautam Singhania in 2000, this luxurious, classic motor yacht was custom built in 2006 in Burmese teak at Wadia Boat Builders, a third-generation boat builder in Bilimora, Gujarat. Incidentally, it was the Wadias who built India's first sailing craft that traded spices and commodities across the Arabian Sea.

The modern cruiser exudes an East-meets-West vibe. It's grandeur is enhanced by a spacious tri-deck. There's a seven-man jacuzzi on its uppermost desk that is probably the largest and most voluminous of any yacht this size.

While the vessel usually makes yearly trips down to the Maldives from Goa right through sailing season from October to April-May, it is currently docked in the Maldives and is open for cruises around the atolls. A seven-day package sees the crew sail past Malé to various atolls every day.

One can also enjoy an array of watersports: they can jet surf, jetpack and flyboard, and even sit atop an underwater scooter and jet ski. Inter- and intra-atoll cruising, fishing, diving, snorkelling, beach barbecues, swimming in lagoons and a masterclass from the chef, in addition to gourmet four-course meals, are part of the experience. Contact +91 9920186261 or +91-9819974393; website or West Coast Marine

The 80ft Ferretti is a luxury motor yacht charter that offered tours around Greece in pre-COVID times. It is now based off Mumbai. Top  quality craftsmanship, lavish amenities, welcoming spaces and striking décor make it the perfect home on the sea.

It's owners say that the spacious bridge designed, for both navigation and entertainment, the quality and finish of the woodwork is what sets this pleasure craft apart from all other yachts in its class. Four elegantly designed staterooms—a master stateroom, a VIP suite and two twin staterooms—give guests the privacy they desire. Her spacious salon, with a handsome lounge and open spaces, are other features guests love. Sunbathe and dine alfresco as the crew of four double up to give you a memorable experience.

Foxy Lady, part of the Majestic 66 fleet, was built in Dubai and currently operates in Goa's waters. Docked in the waters by Britona village, this three-bedroom luxury boat, with a salon and a small dining area, is popular for celebrations, proposals and quiet, romantic dinners aboard.

While overnighters are also available, day cruises are the more sought-after option. You can rent it to sail on the backwaters past churches and heritage homes of Old Goa . Often chartered for pre-wedding, film and ad shoots as well as a variety of parties, guests can also indulge in a spot of fishing and sunset cruises. A three-hour cruise followed by eight to nine hours in anchor is the most popular option, in case you need help planning. Contact: +91 80 4510 4510 or +91 63641 23461 to charter; website

Blue Diamond docks on the Mandovi with charters down the river that follow the hilly scape of Goa's hinterland. Though it can also head out to the sea for four to five hours, on request.

The white cruiser has an air-conditioned salon area with another extended outside the cockpit for guests to sit around. The sundeck at the front is a guest favourite, and there's also a flybridge, a tall upper deck high up above the water, where guests can enjoy "flying". The master suite has its own bath.

The Blue Diamond is popular for sunset cruises, sailing around Candolim and Goa's rivers and backwaters, North Morjim and Kevi and sailing south to Betul. Overnighters are also an option. You can also charter the yacht for a large family get-togethers, parties, proposals, or pre-wedding shoots. The vessel comes with a chef on board. Contact: 9422641419 to charter; website

Former owners: The Royal Navy, Richard Burton and Elizebeth Taylor, and Vijay Mallya Current owner: 2S Holdings Span: 165ft Capacity: 10 guests Rate: US$12,000 (Rs8.9 lakh) per hour

luxury yacht the Kalizma in the Maldives rent cost Kalizma

The luxurious Kalizma yacht, once owned by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor and Vijay Mallya

If the Kalizma could write her memoir, the 114-year-old classic motor yacht would time-travel to her youth with The Royal Navy in World War I and II and then her betwixt era when actor Richard Burton bought it in 1967 with his lady love Liz Taylor and named her "Kalizma" after their children Kate, Liza and Maria. Then came an era of decadence when Vijay Mallya restored this 1906-built cruiser in 2006 to make her among the finest vintage luxury motor yachts. Its present owner has refitted and restored the vessel under the doting eye of Captain Surendra Saini, an ex-Navy man.

Holiday-seekers can soak in the turquoise beauty of the Maldives off this vintage beauty till April 2021, till when it will be anchored there. When Indian ports open for cruise ships, you will find her docked in Goa. The Kalizma yacht offers customised charters (5- 7- 15- 21-day packages). Each day is spent exploring a different atoll after guests are picked up at Malé. Then onward.

Guests can go jet-skiing, wakeboarding, snorkelling, kayaking, diving or ask for dreamy beach barbeques

Guests can go jet-skiing, wakeboarding, snorkelling , kayaking, diving or ask for dreamy beach barbeques. A large mahogany table seats 12 for a gourmet meal; the master suite is dusted in ivory and comes with a marble bath with gold fittings. The salon, with its white wooden bar, an afterdeck and large portholes with vibrant niches, is a luxurious home on sails. The real and unbeatable luxury though is its pedigree. Owner: Bismarck Messias Span: 28ft Capacity: 10 to 15 people Rate: Rs10,000 an hour

For the owner Bismarck Messias, SP Edith—which can be chartered out in the waters of Goa for a few hours—is an excuse to bring friends and families together. As yachts are usually 35-40ft, he prefers to call the 28-ft Edith a cabin cruiser.

Fitted with amenities like an air-conditioner, television, refrigerator, pantry, oven and hot plate, the yacht has permission to go out to the sea and to islands off the coast. Guests can enjoy river fishing and snorkelling and also be plied with food of their choice on request. They can bring their own refreshments, as well.

Its popular jaunts include sunset cruises and friend-and-family sailings for a couple of hours across the Mandovi River. Overnighters are not an option aboard SP Edith, which is currently in maintenance and is gearing up to resume operations in a month.

Romance does not have to be expensive. Top 9 Special Private Yacht Options

Here are the top 9 special private yacht options that you may want to consider:

1. Experience the ultimate luxury yacht sailing

Enjoy the stunning views of the Mumbai skyline and the Arabian Sea while sipping on champagne and indulging in delicious gourmet cuisine. Whether you want to celebrate a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to a luxurious experience, a luxury yacht sailing in Mumbai is the perfect choice. Here are a few points when availing of this option:

You will have the entire vessel to yourself, giving you complete privacy and exclusivity. This is perfect for couples or small groups who want to enjoy a romantic or intimate experience without any interruptions.

The yachts are designed to provide maximum comfort and relaxation , with spacious interiors, plush seating, and top-of-the-line amenities. You can enjoy a luxurious experience while taking in the stunning views of Mumbai's coastline.

A luxury yacht charter also comes with a professional crew who are trained to provide exceptional service and hospitality. They will take care of all your needs, from preparing delicious meals to ensuring your safety and comfort.

The cost of a luxury yacht charter in Mumbai can range from INR 50,000 to INR 5,00,000 per day. This price can include the yacht rental, crew, fuel, and some basic amenities such as snacks and beverages. Chartering a luxury yacht can be the most expensive option in terms of private yacht sailing.

2. Experience Mumbai sunset from the deck of a yacht

You can expect to pay anywhere between INR 10,000 to INR 30,000 for a two-hour private sunset cruise. The price may increase if you opt for additional services such as a romantic dinner, live music, or a photographer.

private yacht owners in india

Sunset cruising in Mumbai is a unique and enjoyable experience that is perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends. During the cruise, you'll get to enjoy stunning views of the Mumbai skyline as the sun sets over the Arabian Sea while relaxing with a glass of wine.

One of the main advantages of a private sunset cruise is that it offers a more personalized and intimate experience compared to a crowded public cruise. You'll have the entire boat to yourself, which means you can relax and enjoy the sunset in peace without any distractions. The Mumbai Sailing Club offers sunset sail packages for INR 6,000 (approximately $80 USD) for 2 guests.

This is also a great option for those who want to celebrate a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, or engagement. You can customize the experience to suit your preferences, whether that's by adding a romantic dinner, live music, or other special touches.

3. Spend the night onboard a yacht in Mumbai

Overnight yacht sailing in Mumbai is a popular activity among tourists and locals alike. It offers an opportunity to spend a night on a luxurious yacht while exploring the beautiful waters of Mumbai.

Most private yacht sails are for a few hours, while overnight sailing allows you to spend a night on the yacht and enjoy the experience for a longer period of time. This gives you more time to relax, unwind, and take in the stunning views of the Mumbai skyline from the water.

This option also offers a higher level of luxury and comfort compared to shorter private yacht sails. This is because the yacht is equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, comfortable sleeping quarters, and a kitchenette to prepare meals and gives off the comforts of a five-star hotel. Prices for this option typically range from INR 30,000 to INR 1,50,000 or more per night.

4. Explore Mumbai with an island-hopping yacht sailing tour

The cost of an island-hopping yacht sailing tour in Mumbai ranges from INR 10,000 to INR 50,000 per person for a full-day tour (approximately $135 to $675 USD).

An island-hopping yacht sailing tour in Mumbai can be an exciting and unique way to explore the beautiful coastline and surrounding islands and here are some of the inclusions of the tour:

  • The tour will include the rental of a private yacht , which will be your mode of transportation for the duration of the tour.
  • The yacht will come with an experienced crew that will handle all the sailing, navigation, and safety aspects of the tour.
  • The tour will typically include visits to several nearby islands, such as Elephanta Island, Alibaug, and Khanderi Island. You will have the opportunity to explore these islands and their attractions, such as ancient caves, historic forts, and beautiful beaches.
  • The tour will usually include snacks and drinks on board the yacht , such as sandwiches, fruits, and beverages.
  • Some tours may also include water sports activities , such as kayaking, snorkeling, and swimming.

5. Reward your employees or impress clients with a corporate yacht sailing event

You can choose from a range of luxury yachts that can accommodate from 10 to 200 guests, and customize your event to suit your preferences. Generally, prices can range from INR 25,000 to INR 2,00,000 per hour for a yacht that can accommodate up to 200 guests.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

  • The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
  • The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.

Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.

Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)

Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.

If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.

SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.

While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .

Do you have any details about Launchpad or any other superyachts? Email reporter Madeline Berg at [email protected].

Politics latest: Mordaunt responds to rumours of plot to oust Sunak

A former minister has warned Tory plotters against ousting Rishi Sunak in an election year, as his mooted replacement - Penny Mordaunt - gives short shrift to suggestions she could become prime minister.

There has been talk in recent days that Penny Mordaunt could be a possible replacement for Rishi Sunak if unhappy Tory MPs kick him out before the election.

But the Commons leader has insisted her focus is on the job in hand.

Reporters shouted questions to Ms Mordaunt as she left this morning's cabinet meeting.

As you would expect, they were about the suggestions she could step in if Mr Sunak is ousted.

"I'm getting on with my job and I recommend it," she replied.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held his weekly meeting with members of his cabinet inside Number 10 Downing Street.

Here's what the gathering looked like in pictures:

One year ago, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.

The prime minister met his pledge to halve inflation by the end of 2023, leaving four pledges outstanding.

However, he is faring less well with his other pledges.

It has been confirmed the UK is now in recession, which means the PM's pledge to grow the economy is not being met.

With the general election approaching, how is Mr Sunak doing on delivering his other promises?

You can see the progress for yourself below.

There will most likely be a general election at some point in 2024, but we don't know exactly when.

Rishi Sunak has said it will not happen on 2 May - when local elections will take place across England.

The prime minister's "working assumption" is that it will be in the second half of this year, but beyond that we know very little more about the precise timing.

So why is this the case?

Political correspondent Serena Barker-Singh explains:

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about different political parties.

Labour is still sitting comfortably on a roughly 21-point lead, averaging at 44.1% in the polls, with the Tories on 23.1%.

In third is Reform UK on 11.3%, followed by the Lib Dems on 9.8%.

The Green Party stands at 5.8%, and the SNP on 2.9%.

See the latest update below - and you can read more about the methodology behind the tracker  here .

Former Tory leadership candidate Penny Mordaunt may have poured cold water over talk of her gunning for the PM's job ( see 11.02 post) , but speculation about Rishi Sunak's future is unlikely to go away.

Our political correspondent  Gurpreet Narwan   says rumours that Tory MPs are plotting to overthrow Mr Sunak before the election are a sign of "real despondency within the party".

"We're hearing from MPs all the time that they fear the public's stopped listening to them altogether," she says.

"They're not getting a positive response on the doorstep and with the party languishing 20 points behind in the polls, there's real frustration among MPs who fear they're going to lose their jobs.

"While there's clearly no firm plot yet, all this is a sign of the real despondency within the party.

"Especially as it looks as though it's going to have to limp on to autumn, with the prime minister shooting down suggestions of an election in May."

After a bad few weeks - from the spring budget failing to provide any bounce in the polls, to the defection of Lee Anderson to Reform - it's an "uphill battle" for the prime minister to lift the mood.

Andrew Mitchell, the Foreign Office minister, is now responding to an Urgent Question in the Commons on the situation in Israel and Gaza.

He said he is "deeply concerned" about the situation in Gaza, as Labour's shadow foreign secretary warned of "catastrophic levels of hunger".

David Lammy said that famine in the region is "imminent".

'It's unbearable - and must not go on'

Mr Lammy added: "Half the population is expected to face catastrophic levels of hunger, the highest number of people ever recorded under this system.

"Only twice in 20 years have famine conditions been reached, but what distinguishes the horror in Gaza from what has come before is this is not driven by drought or disaster - it is man made.

"It is the consequences of war, it is the consequence of aid that is available not reaching those who need it.

"Food is piled up in trucks just a few kilometres away while children in Gaza are starving. It's unbearable - and it must not go on."

Mr Lammy says the restrictions on aid flows in the region are "completely unacceptable".

He asks if the government will join Labour's call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

Aid truck provision 'woefully short'

In response, Mr Mitchell says the UK is doing "everything we can" to try to head off the threat of famine in Gaza.

He also confirms 192 aid trucks did reach the region on Sunday.

"But that is woefully short of what is required," the minister adds.

"Before the crisis, more than 500 trucks a day were getting in."

A proposed takeover of The Telegraph newspaper by a UAE-led consortium will be referred to the competition watchdog.

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said she was "minded" to send the deal to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) following advice from regulator Ofcom, which will kick off a long review.

The consortium looking to buy the newspaper is RedBird IMI - a joint venture an Abi Dhabi investment group and a US fund manager.

The CMA review could effectively kill the proposed takeover because while it's taking place, a law is due to come into force that would ban foreign governments owning British newspapers.

Ms Frazer said Ofcom had found Abi Dhabi's IMI may wish to influence "the accurate presentation of news and free expression of opinion in the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers".

She expects the new law banning governments from owning papers to come into force within the next month or two.

"If the Telegraph case is still live, it will affect it," she told LBC radio.

Our business correspondent Paul Kelso explained there are specific concerns around the role of Sheikh Mansour, a member of the Abi Dhabi royal family and vice president of the UAE.

He's funding 75% of the proposed £600m takeover deal.

"With a poor record of freedom of media expression in Abu Dhabi, there would be a reduction potentially in freedom of expression in the Telegraph," says Paul.

Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, asks Jeremy Hunt whether the Conservatives have costed a reported plan to abolish national insurance tax.

She says: "After the budget, the chancellor wrote to Conservative Party members, telling them that the government planned to abolish national insurance.

"The economic secretary said that national insurance will vanish, and the prime minister said it was his ambition to abolish it.

"So can the chancellor confirm whether he asked the Office for Budget Responsibility to cost the government's unfunded plan to abolish national insurance contributions?"

In response, Mr Hunt largely dodges the question.

He says he is "glad" Ms Reeves asked about national insurance cuts.

"First, she supported them, then she abstained in the lobbies, now she appears to be against them," he adds. "Like the bankers bonus tax which she was strongly in favour of and then strongly against.

"Isn't the actual truth here that where Labour should have an economic policy, there is just a black hole filled with platitudes?"

Mr Reeves pushes again on her question.

Mr Hunt says: "We specifically said we wouldn't fund national insurance cuts from increasing borrowing or cutting spending on public services."

In the Commons, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt was asked if he believes his spring budget landed well with the public - and his party colleagues.

He said: "Well, what I would say to the honourable gentleman very simply is that budget will mean the UK economy will grow faster than France, Germany, Italy or Japan in the next five years.

"That is doing the right thing for the country."

Mr Hunt also claimed that the government's latest 2p cut in national insurance "will increase living standards by 1%" in the UK.

The prime minister's spokesman has called on the House of Lords to help pass the government's Rwanda plan, so Rishi Sunak can hit his target of having deportation flights off the ground by Easter.

Peers have been seeking to water down the controversial legislation, but their proposed amendments were rejected the government in the Commons last night.

The bill now goes back to the Lords on Wednesday as part of a game of ping pong between the two houses of parliament.

"The prime minister would like to see it pass this hurdle," No 10 said.

"The Lords have an opportunity to work with the government to pass a bill to stop people taking perilous journeys across the Channel.

"The PM is keen to act quickly. We need to act and save lives.

"Sitting back and doing nothing is not a compassionate option."

No 10 reiterated the PM's goal of passing the bill in the spring, saying the timeline "remains unchanged".

For more on where we're at with the Rwanda scheme, read analysis from political correspondent Tamara Cohen :
