6-venue World Championship in the United States will build towards an international series in 2024.

Fleet of 8 class 1 boats expected to compete in this season’s championship., new event in the city of sheboygan on lake michigan with season finale in miami..

Powerboat P1 has today announced the UIM Class 1 World Championship race calendar for the 2023 season, which sees the series heading to Wisconsin for the first time and returning to favourite locations in Florida and Indiana. A fleet of eight Class 1 boats is expected to compete in the six-venue championship from May through to September.

f1 powerboat schedule 2023

In October 2020, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) assigned to Powerboat P1 the international rights to Class 1 racing in an exclusive ten-year agreement that includes organisational and promotion rights to the world championship. However, with the pandemic seriously impacting the 2021 season by preventing overseas teams from traveling to the United States, it wasn’t until this year that P1 was able to action its plans to attract more race teams and grow the series through social media and building the worldwide television audience.

Racing will kick off at Cocoa Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast in late May, before moving to the Gulf Coast at the end of June when the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix will celebrate its 38 th  anniversary. In August the series will head north to Indiana for the Michigan City Great Lakes Grand Prix, and a new event in the Wisconsin city of Sheboygan on the western shore of Lake Michigan will host the Mercury Racing MidWest Challenge.

Featuring the top categories of U.S. powerboat racing including Class 1, the three-day festival is expected to attract more than thirty teams to race along the Sheboygan waterfront. In early September the Class 1 fleet will be back on the Gulf Coast in St. Petersburg, and P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala is in advanced discussions to stage a season finale in Miami. “We raced in this iconic city in 2018 and returning this year with the Class 1 boats would create an outstanding climax to the 2023 championship,” said Rangoonwala.

f1 powerboat schedule 2023

“As we look ahead to the 2023 season, I can confirm that both the M CON Racing Team and Sudrheim Offshore Racing will be joining the series to give us an international field of eight boats with teams representing Australia, Sweden, Norway and, of course, the United States,” said P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala. “The M CON team will compete in a fully branded Monster Energy boat. This new canopied Skater 438 catamaran is the first purpose-built Class 1 boat for more than a decade. With Sudrheim Racing flying the flag for Norway next year, we can look forward to another Scandinavian team battling for the world title.”

f1 powerboat schedule 2023

This season’s championship will build towards an international race calendar in 2024 with host venues in Scandinavia and the Middle East being added to the schedule. In five years’ time, the key goal in P1’s development plan is to have twelve Class 1 teams racing at ten international venues. “Our live streaming this season will be significantly enhanced by the introduction of a new timing system which will show boat positions, distances between boats, speeds and lap times as live graphics,” explained Rangoonwala.

“We’re on an exciting journey and our mantra is to take UIM Class 1 back to the pinnacle of offshore racing,”

added Rangoonwala.

INSIDE F1H2O

  • What is F1H2O?
  • The Championship
  • The Grand Prix
  • Rescue&Safety

The UIM F1H2O World Championship is the 'flagship' international series of single-seater inshore circuit powerboat racing.

Highly competitive, intensely challenging, risky and entertaining, the F1H2O World Championship is the ultimate adrenalin rush and regarded as one of the most spectacular and exciting sports in the world.

The series attracts up to 20 of the world's leading drivers and is a sport that has to be seen to be believed as these diminutive tunnel-hull catamarans enter hairpin turns at over 90mph and top 140mph on the straights.

Picture the scene; 18 to 20 sleek, powerful and lightweight catamarans lining up on the start pontoon. Inside each cockpit sits a lone individual peering through a tiny windscreen. One hand grasps the steering wheel, the other poised over the start button. The tension inside the cockpit is intense as the drivers wait for the crucial start. Beyond the cockpit, an eerie silence descends over the entire arena, all attention fixed on the start.

No sooner does the wait end when 10,000hp of highly tuned brute power bursts into life sending the fleet screaming towards the first corner leaving nothing but a glorious fountain of white spray in its wake.

However, with the thrilling high-speed action comes the risk of ruin as drivers endure brain-numbing G-Forces - their rigs taking hairpin turns at over 90mph while they dice deck-to-deck in often zero-visibility.

Now in its 36th year the four decades of the World Championship have witnessed considerable change and evolution; the seventies and eighties saw multiple promoters and two giant corporations of the sport OMC and Mercury vying for supremacy to be the pinnacle of the sport.

OMC were touting their 3.5litre V8 package that became known as the OZ class, Mercury pushing their 2.0litre engine and called the ON class, the disparity in power would soon lead to bitter wrangling and infighting amongst competitors.

The split came in 1981, FONDA was formed running the ON class engine with the OMC backed PRO ONE run series running the OZ class engine, both rival championships claiming the right to use the title World Championship, a dispute settled by the sport's governing body the UIM later that year awarding the OZ class the accolade.

1984 saw the beginning of yet another twist as safety became a major concern with engine development and increasing power of the V8s taking its tragic toll and signaled the slow demise of the OZ class internationally, ending in 1986.

The door was now opening for the existing FONDA World Grand Prix series to reinvent itself. From 1987 to 1989 there was no official UIM World Championship, and with no challenger, the UIM reinstated the World Championship status and in 1990 the FONDA World Grand Prix Series became the UIM F1H2O World Championship, Mercury's 2.0litre engine the preferred power-plant of the time, the Mercury 2.5litre engine coming in in 2000 and used today.

In 1993 the UIM appointed Nicolo di San Germano as Promoter; his ongoing 30 year tenure has brought stability, a new direction, improved safety and an ever broadening geographic footprint encompassing Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia and with this expansion a growing commercial value.

Over the last 38 years the sport has played out 295 Grand Prix in 33 countries across five continents, 15 drivers have captured the World title, 48 becoming members of the illustrious Grand Prix winners club.

Of the 15 World Champions 8 are multiple title winners; Italy's Guido Cappellini is the most decorated winning 10, Italy's Alex Carella and American Scott Gillman with four, France's Philippe Chiappe, Italian Renato Molinari and American Shaun Torrente with three each, Finland's Sami Selio and Britain's Jonathan Jones with two apiece.

While today's F1H2O catamarans bear a striking resemblance to those in action throughout the 1980's there is a world of difference in terms of driver protection and general safety.

The early boats were constructed from thin plywood with drivers sitting in an open, exposed cockpit with the risk of injury a high probability in the case of an accident.

With safety at the forefront of boat development, British designer and racer Chris Hodges set about improving the situation and constructed a safety cell that was produced from an immensely strong composite material.

Instead of the cockpit being part of the main structure Hodges' capsule was separate and was fitted to the hulls and centre section.

For the first time drivers were actually strapped into their seats. The idea was that if a boat was involved in an accident, the timber hulls could break up and absorb the impact forces while the driver remained well protected inside his cell.

The new device proved itself on several occasions and the U.I.M. called for it to become compulsory, and in the early 1990's Burgess introduced canopies that made cockpits fully enclosed.

In the late 1990's further developments saw the introduction of an airbag in the cockpit that would inflate in a crash to ensure the capsule wouldn't sink before rescue crews could attend.

Over the years boat construction has been developed and today few if any are built of timber, now replaced by modern composites.

In 2023 ten teams and 20 drivers from 12 countries will compete at Grand Prix in Europe, Middle East and Asia for the coveted World title, the prestigious number 1 plate will be carried by the defending World Champion Shaun Torrente driving for Abu Dhabi team.

The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) is the world governing body for all Powerboating activities. It is fully recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is a member of the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) and of SportAccord for whom the UIM President serves as President and Board member. The UIM has almost 60 affiliated National Federations. Circuit, Offshore, Pleasure Navigation and Aquabike are among the main disciplines. The UIM has signed a Cooperation Agreement with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) to further its range of environmental initiatives and to share expertise.

The F1H2O World Championship is the leading formula in single-seater inshore circuit powerboat racing and was sanctioned by the UIM in 1981.

It is a multiple Grand Prix series of eight events taking place in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Points allocated at each Grand Prix count towards the overall World Championship standings.

In addition to the World Championship, points are also allocated for the BRM Pole Position and Team Championships and the Fast Lap Trophy.

A three-tiered qualifying session is run over 60 minutes, the multiple lap Grand Prix run over a minimum 45 minutes, not to exceed 60 minutes.

In 2023 ten teams, 20 drivers from 12 countries plus technicians and support staff will compete for the coveted World title.

DAY 1 Documentation and registration Technical scrutineering Drivers' briefing (compulsory for all team managers, drivers and radiomen of each boat) Free practice Boats and racing equipment (including racing gear of the driver) must be in the pits 24 hours before starting the technical scrutineering

DAY 2 Drivers' briefing (compulsory for all team managers, drivers and radiomen of each boat) Free practice Official Qualifying Podium presentation

Pole position and starting line-ups are determined by a three-tiered qualifying session, Q1, Q2 and Q3 preceding each Grand Prix race. Stateof-the-art timing equipment records the performances of each boat to decide the final classification and starting positions.

Q1 : A twenty-minute session with all boats entitled to run multiple laps at any time during the session, with the 12 fastest progressing into Q2. The times set by those that didn't qualify for Q2 denote their starting positions.

Q2 : After a seven-minute break, the times will be reset and the remaining 12 boats will then run a fifteen-minute session - again they may complete as many laps as they want at any time during that period. At the end of the session the six fastest boats will progress into Q3. The times set by those that didn't qualify for Q3 denote their starting positions.

Q3 : The times are reset and the top six boats from Q2 will run all together for 10 minutes and the arrival order at the finish line will decide their start positions.

If a driver is deemed by the officials to have stopped unnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during qualifying, his times may be cancelled

No refuelling allowed during timed trial.

Every race circuit is different in size, but are generally about 2000 meters in distance. Each circuit has at least one long straightaway and several tight turns, mostly left with one or two right turns.

The turns produce a G-force of up to 4.5 on the driver, which means his weight is multiplied 4.5 times as he makes a tight U-turn at over 100 mph.

Water is a constantly changing unstable unpredictable surface and conditions play a major part in the outcome of each Grand Prix.

With water current and wind conditions varying on every lap and spray being continually showered over the tiny console screen, drivers are quite often driving 'blind' at full speed, mere inches away from their rivals.

In the event of a 'barrel-roll' (capsize), a mandatory air bag installed above the pilot's head will inflate upon contact with water. This enables the cockpit to remain above water until rescue arrives.

All drivers have a self-contained air supply fitted inside the capsule as an added safety features.

LIGHT SIGNALS Each entry must have the electronic time-keeping device and lighting equipment. Compliance is required for scrutineering clearance. Lights signals are used in accordance with these rules to designate specific times or to give instructions to pilots.

Lights and their purposes are as follows:

YELLOW : Reduce speed to 3000 rpm maximum - extreme caution on race course - hold current position - no overtaking - follow pace boat

RED : Race stopped, slow down instantly and return to the start dock, identical to actual black flag.

WHITE AND BLUE caution FLAG : Rescue boats must be given the right of way. A complaint from rescue personnel will be penalised.

Boats that have broken down and pulled to the infield or off the racecourse will be towed to the trailer or the start dock only during a "race stop" condition and if pick-up boats are available.

During the time trials and the race, one crewmember should always remain at signalling area and maintain radio contact with his driver during free practice, timed trials and race.

Each team consists of a manager, two drivers, mechanics, radio coordinator, technical coordinator and equipped with infrastructure such as trailer workshop and welcome marquee.

They should have two catamarans fitted with a 2.5 litre engine and compete at 8 to 10 Grand Prix events in a season.

Imagine this: up to 20 lightweight, 17-foot carbon fibre catamarans hurtling around a racing circuit at speeds topping 220km/h (130mph); all boats are powered by highly tuned V6 outboard engines, each pumping out 400HP at close to 10.000 rpm; they boast an awesome power to weight ratio and weigh in at around 500 kilos.

Qualifying and Classification

The grid formation is decided through qualifying periods, and timing equipment meticulously records each competitor’s performance. The final classification determines the allocation of championship points, adding a strategic layer to the competition.

The Spectacle Unleashed: Speed and Daring Feats

Accelerating Beyond Limits : Describing F1 Powerboat racing as driving an F1 race car at full speed over a ploughed field captures the essence of its intensity. These powerboats accelerate faster than state-of-the-art F1 cars, reaching speeds of 160 kilometers per hour in a mere 4 seconds—without brakes or gears.

Risks and Challenges : Competitive, daring, and risky, F1 Powerboat racing is the ultimate extreme sport. Pilots navigate hairpin turns at 150 kph without brakes or gear shifts, all while battling limited visibility. The slightest error could lead to high-speed disaster.

Water Conditions and Safety Measures: Water conditions play a pivotal role, with pilots often driving ‘blind’ at full speed due to spray and changing currents. Safety measures, including mandatory airbags and self-contained air supplies, mitigate the risks, ensuring pilots’ well-being in case of a ‘barrel-roll.’

There are six races in the series:

• May 18-21 —Thunder On Cocoa Beach, Cocoa Beach, Fla. • June 30-July 2 —Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, Sarasota, Fla. • August 4-6 (TBC)—Great Lakes Grand Prix, Michigan City, Ind. • August 11-13 — Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge, Sheboygan, Wis. • September 1-3 —St. Petersburg Grand Prix, St. Petersburg, Fla. • September (TBC)—Miami Powerboat Grand Prix, Miami.

f1 powerboat schedule 2023

All Class 1 teams will run Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines this season.

As noted in the schedule above, the Great Lakes Grand Prix is “to be confirmed” pending American Power Boat Association approval. The final date for the Miami event will be released in the next few weeks, according to Powerboat P1 officials. Though the Race World Offshore events in Marathon and Clearwater (Fla.) are not part of the UIM Class 1 World Championships, the Key West, Fla.-based organization will co-market those events with Powerboat P1. Class 1 teams are welcome to compete at those venues.

Likewise, the Race World Offshore Key West Championships, November 6-12, are not part of the UIM series but instead will be a stand-alone, three-race “Key West Championship” event under RWO.

“It looks like we have at least eight boats starting the first race and everyone is super-competitive,” said Steve Curtis, the throttleman of the Huski Chocolate team, which won the 2021 Class 1 world championship in 2022. “I’m happy to race wherever as long as we have a good lineup of boats and fans want us there.”

Like most of his Class 1 counterparts, Curtis had hoped the circuit would have at least one venue outside the U.S. this season. According to the release, Class 1 competitors will get their wish next season with venues in Scandinavia and the Middle East. Having a “12-team fleet competing at 10 international venues” in the next five years is among the organization’s key goals, according to Powerboat P1 chief executive officer Azam Rangoonwala.

In the meantime, the Cocoa Beach season-opener for the 2023 Class 1 World Championship series is just three-and-a-half months away.

There are eight Class 1 teams planning to compete this season.

“Our live-streaming this season will be significantly enhanced by the introduction of a new timing system which will show boat positions, distances between boats, speeds and lap times as well as live graphics,” Rangoonwala said.

As previously reported on speedothewater.com, Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines will be spec power—without exception—starting this season. Among the teams converting from existing power, which was allowed with horsepower-output restrictions in 2022 to help build the Class 1 boat-count and fan interest, to 1100 Comp engines is df Young , which runs a 50-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran.

Team owner/throttleman Rich Wyatt will be joined in the cockpit by Hugh Fuller, who shared the cockpit with veteran offshore racing throttleman John Tomlinson for several seasons in the Super Cat class from 2000 to 2003.

“We are excited about the 2023 season,” Wyatt said. “Our crew is underway making the conversion to Mercury Racing engines, and we look forward to testing and getting the boat dialed in soon.”

Jadwal F1 Powerboat 2023 Indonesia

F1 Powerboat 2023 Indonesia diikuti total 10 tim dengan masing-masing mengandalkan 2 orang driver . Artinya, bakal ada 20 pembalap yang berada di atas lintasan balap Danau Toba.

Juara dunia musim lalu, Shaun Torrente, tetap bersama Team Abu Dhabi.

Sementara Jonas Andersson, runner-up F1 Powerboat 2022, juga masih memperkuat Team Sweden.

Namun, posisi Longhi akhirnya digantikan Brock Cohen asal Australia.

Las Vegas Grand Prix circuit

The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place over 50 laps of the 6.2-kilometre Las Vegas Strip Circuit.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix has only been staged once before, having made its debut in the F1 calendar in the penultimate race weekend of the 2023 season. There were two editions of the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in 1981 and 1982, held in the parking lot of the famous hotel, which both served as the final round of the Drivers' Championship.

Designed by Carsten Tilke, the son of Formula One circuit designer Hermann, the track has 17 corners (including one chicane) with local authorities allowing F1 to use the Vegas streets for a decade.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is held under floodlights, starting at 10 p.m. local time. As with all street circuits, the tight track and occasionally uneven road surface can play havoc with such finely tuned machines.

Las Vegas Grand Prix FAQ

So, that's how to watch the Las Vegas Grand Prix and all the race timings sorted. Now here's an F1 Las Vegas FAQ for everything else you want to know about the upcoming race.

When is the next race?

The 2024 Qatar Grand Prix follows the Las Vegas GP one week afterward. The race date is Sunday, December 1.

Who won the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix?

Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the 2023 Las Vegas GP, finishing with a time of 1:29:08.289.

In the penultimate race of the 2023 season, reigning champion Verstappen had to come from second on the grid after Charles Leclerc took pole position.

The Dutchman also received a five-second penalty for ramming Leclerc off the track going into the first corner, but safety cars helped him claw back an advantage before he eventually passed the Ferrari, a lead he never relinquished.

What is the lap record at Las Vegas Grand Prix?

Australian driver Oscar Piastri set the fastest lap time at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit in last year's inaugural race. Driving in the McLaren-Mercedes, he posted a time of 1:35.490.

Las Vegas Grand Prix winners

Verstappen won the inaugural event in 2023, so is the only winner. Leclerc finished second after overtaking Sergio Perez on the final lap.

More coverage via the Associated Press

The FIA said Tuesday that its compliance officer has received two complaints “detailing potential allegations involving certain members of its governing body” in seeming reference to whistleblower claims against the president of Formula 1′s governing body.

The BBC reported this week that FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem allegedly intervened to overturn a penalty given to Fernando Alonso at last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix . A second BBC report says the same whistleblower also claims Ben Sulayem told officials not to certify the Las Vegas circuit for its high-profile race last November.

“The Compliance Department is assessing these concerns, as is common practice in these matters, to ensure that due process is meticulously followed,” the FIA said.

The FIA confirmed no details about the allegations or even that Ben Sulayem is the target. In an additional statement given to The Associated Press, an FIA spokesman said: “It is unfortunate and a source of great concern that the matter has been disclosed to the media without any prior authorization and that certain elements of the report were inaccurately reported.”

The BBC reports follow a dramatic month in which Red Bull investigated team principal Christian Horner over allegations of misconduct involving a team employee. The complaint was dismissed days before Saturday’s season-opening race in Bahrain, won by Max Verstappen of Red Bull.

Even after Horner was cleared by Red Bull’s parent company, a trove of alleged evidence against him was leaked to more than 100 industry members during practice in Bahrain. Horner has denied all allegations and his wife, Geri Halliwell, was by his side on race day for Red Bull’s 1-2 finish.

After the race, Verstappen’s father told The Daily Mail the team will implode if Horner is not removed from his position.

Now attention has shifted from the Horner saga to allegations against Ben Sulayem, who has been heavily scrutinized through his first two seasons as FIA president.

The whistleblower is believed to be a former FIA employee who now works for Formula One Management, a person with direct knowledge of the complaints told AP speaking on condition of anonymity because the name and other details are not being disclosed by FIA.

The allegations against Ben Sulayem are part of what appears to be a bitter power struggle between the governing body and F1 itself. Ben Sulayem was elected FIA president by its membership in 2021 just days after the controversial season finale cost Lewis Hamilton a record-breaking eighth title and gave Verstappen his first world championship.

Ben Sulayem has been a target since his election. He has been accused by F1 rights holder Liberty Media of harmfully downplaying F1′s commercial value; he publicly backed Michael Andretti and General Motors’ bid to expand the 10-team grid despite the refusal of F1 to allow the Americans entry, and he apparently blocked an agreement between the teams and Liberty to double the number of sprint weekends for 2023.

Most recently, Ben Sulayem infuriated Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and his wife, Susie, who runs the all-female F1 Academy, for questioning if there is a conflict of interest with their respective jobs. The FIA launched a compliance inquiry into the Wolffs that was dropped two days later.

The Wolffs may pursue legal action and angrily defended their integrity. The other nine F1 teams in identically worded statements released simultaneously all denied filing a complaint about the Wolffs.

The FIA maintains it must have a complaint before it can investigate any improprieties and has never clarified what triggered the investigation into the Wolffs. At the same time, a lack of formal complaint filed to FIA against Horner has been cited as the reason why the FIA has not launched its own investigation.

In the latest allegations, the whistleblower reportedly told the BBC that Ben Sulayem called Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa - the FIA’s vice president for sport for the Middle East and North Africa region — to make clear he thought a 10-second penalty against Alonso last season should be rescinded for work done on his car while he was serving a previous five-second penalty.

The penalty dropped Alonso from third place to fourth. The penalty was overturned and Alonso nudged George Russell of Mercedes off the podium.

Last fall, Ben Sulayem reportedly told race stewards to find a way not to declare the Las Vegas circuit safe for racing.

The temporary street course was not completed in time to be inspected in the FIA’s required window ahead of an event. The inspection happened early in the morning of the first practice and Carlos Sainz Jr. ran over a loose drain cover that destroyed his Ferrari and ended the session after just nine minutes.

The entire course had to be reinspected, leading to lengthy delays and a second practice that ended at 4 a.m. with no spectators in attendance. Ferrari said last month it has yet to come to a financial resolution with F1 over the cost of repairs to Sainz’s car.

The BBC said the whistleblower was contacted by their manager, “who on behest of the FIA president instructed him to find some concerns to prevent the FIA from certifying the circuit before the weekend of the race”. The BBC said the compliance report quotes the whistleblower as saying that “the purpose was to find fault with the track in order to withhold the license.”

The Las Vegas Grand Prix debut race was the first promoted by F1 and Liberty Media, and an estimated $500 million was spent on the event. It has not been revealed why Ben Sulayem would have wanted to sink the marquee event, which overcame all its hiccups to produce one of the best races of the 2023 season.

There had been two years of tension, the BBC reported, between Liberty Media and the FIA over the costs of Las Vegas with Ben Sulayem allegedly wanting more money from F1 for the sanctioning body to oversee the event.

F1 races in Saudi Arabia this weekend.

MERCURY RACING TO SPONSOR FORMULA ONE POWERBOAT RACING SERIES

Mercury racing 360 apx outboard to power two-seat ride experience boat.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (April 20, 2022) – Mercury Racing has entered a two-year sponsorship program with the Formula One Powerboat Championship series. The agreement is for the 2022 and 2023 racing seasons and names Mercury Racing the Official Marine Engine and Drive Sponsor. For the next two seasons a Mercury Racing 360 APX outboard will power the Formula One Race Ride Experience, a two-seat tunnel boat available for high-speed media and VIP demonstration laps at each race venue.

“Mercury Racing is excited to be partnering with the Formula One Powerboat Championship Series,” said Mercury Racing General Manager Stuart Halley. “Our support of the premier in-shore circuit-racing series in North America reflects a renewed focus on outboard circuit racing powered by the Mercury Racing Apex Series competition outboard motors. Mercury Racing also appreciates that Formula One and the powerboat racing community is embracing a shift to more-sustainable and modern engines.”

The five event 2022 Formula One Powerboat Championship Series begins April 29-May 1 on the Neches River at the Port Neches Riverfest on the Texas Gulf Coast. The season continues with events in Pittsburgh, Pa. (July 28-31), OPC Nationals at Springfield, Ohio (Aug. 26-28), Highlands, Texas (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) and the Havasu Classic Championships at Lake Havasu, Ariz. (Oct. 14-16). Mercury Racing will have a presence throughout each race weekend.

“Mercury Racing outboards have powered the top classes on the Formula One series, and we welcome its rededication to outboard competition with both this sponsorship and the development of the Apex Series, a new generation of competition outboard power,” said Tim Seebold, Managing Director of the Formula One Powerboat Championship.

Each event will feature multiple boat classes, including the top Formula One tunnel boat class. The new Mercury Racing 200 APX competition outboard is eligible for Formula One in 2022. Several top teams are expected to race with the 200 APX motor, a 3.4-liter V6 four-stroke model. Rated at more than 200 horsepower, the 200 APX outboard offers racers a very durable powerhead and the latest in four-stroke engine technology, while reducing exhaust emissions by 90 percent compared to the Mercury Racing 200 SX two-stroke outboard currently in use in these classes, which is no longer in production.

The Mercury Racing 360 APX , a new 4.6-liter V8 competition outboard, has been approved for the UIM F1H2O World Championship, the flagship international series of single-seater inshore circuit powerboat racing. It will also offer guests a thrilling ride in the Formula One Race Ride Experience two-seat boat. At most venues those rides will be available for fans purchasing a VIP ticket package. The boat will be equipped with video cameras to capture each guest experience. The Ride Experience boat will also be used as a pace boat during competition.
